Backwards Olympics

If you're looking for some giggles, try having a Backwards Mini-Olympics with your kiddos!  Be sure to do these activities in a nice, open area so your little athletes have lots of room to walk, jump, throw and scooch backwards without running into things.

Here's what we're planning to include in our Backwards Olympics this afternoon:
  • Walking backwards to a finish line, then walking backwards carrying a wiffle golf ball on a spoon (or in a measuring cup if it's too hard!).
  • Scooching backwards on hand towels through a mini-course in our living room.  You will want a nice smooth surface for this, like a kitchen floor, hardwood, laminate, etc.
  • Throwing beanbags and koosh balls backward over our heads.  We might see if we can hit a target - maybe a dishpan or a towel on the ground behind us.
  • Jumping backward 10 times - counting backward while we do it!
  • Standing back-to-back and side stepping to the finish line, without our backs moving apart.

I think I'll make some certificates too, with the girls' names spelled backwards.  What else would be fun for a Backwards Olympics?  Share your ideas!

This could be a really fun birthday party, too - wear your clothes backward, eat dessert first, etc.

Happy playing!

I had a backwards birthday party in 3rd grade and it stands tall in my memory as the greatest party ever. I actually had a long-time friend mention what fun she had at that party just the other day!

My mom did a great job planning backwards fun - invitations that had to be read in the mirror, eating scoops of cake in ice cream cons and "inside out" sandwiches under the table, backwards races, the works!

I'm definitely filing that one away for future party planning.

Thanks for bringing back fun memories!
